I was born in number 23 Kirkhill Cottages in July 1949 and just got very interested when I saw the photograph of the gala day with the men in front of number 15
I lived at 15 kirkhill Cottages from 1947 to 1952. After the Victorian house in Addiewell it was paradise. A room to myself, hot water taps, an inside toilet/bath, a fenced backyard and garden shed, front garden area... A million dollar home if listed by a modern real estate dealer!
But my Mum thought the metallic shell of the building would attract a lightning strike,so we lived in fear of thunder storms and eventually moved back to Addiewell, Faraday Place. The epitome of Victorian style life.
The Gala Day was held in the field there only once. The only field available but not suitable as it had a slope to it. The gala field was moved to the soccer field the next and following years.
